CD Review by International Music Journalist, Aparna Datta

Kelly Osbourne, Beyonce Knowles, TrustCompany, Andy Parsons, and Cyrus Chestnut are just a few of the famous biographies she has covered. Her reviews have also been published throughout the internet on a variety of Music websites. With so many talents in one package it is extremely hard to compare Ava Lemert to any other musician out there on the music scene today. While her vocals can be compared to Gladys Knight or Mary J Blige, it is quite hard to categorize her talents.

The sounds of Jazz, R&B, Soul, and Funk all melt into one amazing CD. From My Soul is exactly that, from Ava’s soul. With songs of love, passion, heartache, dance and jazzy tunes your enjoyment will last the whole CD through. The rhythmic sounds and sensual lyrics are perfect for a romantic evening by a warm fire. Turn on the fireplace and bring out the rug for “You Know You Got It”. While you listen to this song your confidence will explode and the person you are with will definitely know that you got it! The sensuality brought out by Ava’s saxophone is hard to turn off, particularly in “Rhodelea” where this sax track is rhythmic and slow.

For those singles out there this CD should not be dismissed, songs of breaking up “You Got Somethin’ Coming To You” and “Won’t Be Your Plaything” are powerful and filled with intense emotions. The struggle of not being heard in a relationship is brought out within this song and the feeling of frustration is portrayed perfectly. One night stands (Nothing Looks the Same in Light) are also featured within this CD, yet the coldness of the event is not. Feelings of an attachment growing are released, and a longing for something you cannot have is evident. Ava has managed to create intense stories with her lyrics.

Dance tunes are in no way absent within the CD. “I Wanna Funk It Up” is readily available for a good dance around your living room and for some funk and jazz beats.

Ava’s sultry voice and the sensual tunes from her saxophone and professional band make From My Soul pleasurable, enjoyable, and extremely worth the purchase of this amazing CD.

ANDREW READ - REVIEW OF "FROM MY SOUL"
The moment you start to listen to Ava's new album you are immediately taken back to a time when soul music was at it's best, the silky smooth vocals of Ava and her wonderful sax playin' really oooze quality. "soft & silky" is a fave as is "that 70s girl" with its groovy rhythm and smooth sax, "Rhodelea" also hits the spot and "you know you got it" is a perfect track to start the album with wonderful vocals from Ava. I Would recommend this cd to all lovers of quality soul & smooth jazz and look forward to hearing future projects from this very Talented Lady.

I discovered Ava at her CD release party. It didn't take long to become a fan. She is the future of smooth jazz, my favorite song so far is nothing looks the same in the light. Check this CD out, you won't regret it.
I've been following Ava for a while on Facebook for a while now, and after listening to some of the samples of her music, I decided to take the plunge and buy the album. I was really impressed! This is an outstanding effort by a hot new artist! After several listens, I'd have to rank "That 70's Girl" as my favorite song. Close behind it is Rhodelea and I Wanna Funk it Up. There is a really interesting blend of saxophone based instrumental songs and some outstanding vocal work. Ms. Ava Lemert has a ton of talent, and I can't wait to hear what she comes up with next. If you are a fan of neo-soul and saxophone music, give this one a listen! You won't be disappointed.

Industry Reviews of "From My Soul"

There's something unique about new vocalist/saxophonist Ava Lemert. Coming "from my Soul", Ava's debut CD, seemingly expresses a multi-talented background with not only gracing the brass, but also packing in the punch behind the vocals & resonating great musical appreciation for soul music. 'Saxxy' & definitely soulful, this project crossed & connected the bridges of R&B & jazz music effortlessly. A dynamic 9 tracks of funky, 'from the gut' soul mixes that should entice a listen with ease...

I’ve listened to alot of music in my time and rarely do I do write-ups, but this project is one you have to hear. Ava truly defies categories and is truly on the up-swing of Indie artist. Be sure to check this one out and add to your collection.

Monday, January 4, 2010 - by Ronald Jackson, President and Chief Editor ...Lemert seems to have a really good handle of how to give the sax that special allure and personality that are so popular in smooth jazz. It doesn’t hurt that she can compose effectively, as well, as I thoroughly enjoyed the melodies and hooks. Sexy, driven, and excited. With that combination in her suitcase, Ava Lemert has demonstrated that she’s not dropping by for a visit, but plans to stay for quite awhile. After they’ve had a listen, I suspect that smooth jazzers will have no problem laying down the “welcome” mat.

Hailing from Citrus Heights, California, the petite yet powerful Ava Lemert blows away the cobwebs from 2009 with her zingy sax prowess and funky vocals. This is no smooth jazz set, by no stretch of the imagination. The CD definitely has it's fair share of jazzy moments, but in equal measure do we find plenty of soul and funk vibes. A set, I would imagine, that encompasses everything we know and love about our music. There is something on here for everyone who visits these pages, and if you check out the sound samples on CD Baby then I think you'll agree that this is a worthwhile purchase to kick off your soulful squandering in 2010! As far as my feelings go, I was sold within moments of hearing the intro to "You Know You Got It". The real instrumentation, funky guitar, horns and flute are superb and very much in a mid '70s vibe... [READ THE ENTIRE REVIEW HERE]
